Referees are an essential part of the rugby family
You might be reading this for a number of reasons; perhaps you've decided that your playing days are over due to injury or work; maybe you've decided you'd like to work towards a career in professional sport or it could be that you're simply interested in giving back to the rugby community by running out onto the pitch with a whistle.
Whatever your reason, the opportunity to referee is open to everyone aged 16+ and the Hertfordshire Society of Referees is always open to new or returning members.
To join the Society, you need to either produce evidence that you have already completed the RFU’s Refereeing 15 a side rugby course or commit to participating in the new RFU course over the following 12 months. The link to the RFU's course booking page is https://gms.rfu.com/GMS/coursefinder
You also need to provide us with a short rugby CV to demonstrate your involvement in the game so far and confirmation that you have passed the World Rugby on-line laws test https://passport.world.rugby/laws-of-the-game and completed the RFU’s on-line ‘Headcase’ training programme on dealing with concussion issues https://www.englandrugby.com/participation/playing/headcase
All new referees, whether they have completed the RFU course or not, can take advantage of the Society’s monthly New Referees training and development sessions.
The Society is committed to developing all of its referees by providing regular training opportunities in monthly meetings. These are both practical and theory based, and are always aimed at being interactive and social. We also look to provide mentors for new referees who would benefit from some support in the early stages of their refereeing career. Within the Society we have a wealth of experience including referees who are officiating at the top end of the game.
As a new referee, you will be appointed to Society games and will be assessed over the course of your first 5 games by one or more of the Society’s Match Official Developers. Once those 5 games have been completed, assuming a satisfactory performance, you will be recommended for to the Society’s Executive for promotion to full membership. Society membership costs £ 20.00 per season.
Once you've completed 5 games for us and been accepted as a full member, you will be provided with a full set of Society kit. As a recreation activity, we reckon it's one of the cheapest teams in Hertfordshire to join!
If you have any questions about membership please contact Peter Smith on email@example.com or Peter Brady on firstname.lastname@example.org
